Real World

In the early 90’s MTV had a show called the Real World and the tag line of the show was “you think you know but you have no idea”. Many of us think that we know all about life. We think that we have it all figured out. It’s interesting that in our world right now there are people who claim to be relationship coaches/gurus and people who find themselves as relationship masters but have never been married. They’ve never had a relationship that lasted more than 5 years. But they claim to be masters they claim to be people who know-it-all.

I won’t even lie, I’ve enjoyed some of their content and thoughts on certain matters, but when it gets to a deeper level and you begin to experience real life or as we say, “when the rubber hits the road”, that’s when you figure out they have no idea.  If you think you know but you have no idea. A great proverb says “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

I used to think this meant to fear God was to go to God with my head bowed like,  “Oh God I’m so afraid of you”. This isn’t the beginning of wisdom. The truth of the matter is that the fear of God is realizing that we don’t know what you think you know about this real world. Realizing and recognizing we have no idea what this world is about. Accepting you have no idea on the purposes of our existence or why we are on this planet. This acknowledgment is part of the journey. It’s part of the quest of figuring out you, our world, and what we really believe.

It’s our confessing that there are spaces of the unknown, which start us on this journey of mastering mindset renewal. Wise people, when we recognize what we don’t know, we begin to seek wisdom. That’s when we seek understanding. That’s when we seek out different ideas, thoughts, and people who have experienced the life we desire and who may have differing points of view. It’s not that we become carbon copies of them but rather they will inspire our thinking, our process. Possibly they can guide us to something that will fit our life, giving us tools and resources, to utilize for our journey.

But if we stand around and just believe that we’ve got the answers and we believe that we know-it-all, we’ll stay stuck in our present disposition. I believe this is why many of us continue to repeat the same mistakes over and over again. This stagnation of life is a symptom of our subconscious desire to stay in bondage and in comfortable ignorance. I love Martin Luther King, Jr.’s quote, “Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”

I want us to get beyond our limiting belief system. Now is a greater time than ever for us to dig deeper, to realize that we don’t have the answers. Recognize that we think we know but we have no idea. Once we start there, that’s the beginning of wisdom; that’s the beginning of mastering mindset renewal. Let’s dive in. Let’s go.
